S—L—O—W, is not a word in my vocabulary I like to use. If you know me at all, I’m more like speedy Gonzales and less like the Tortoise. Although I enjoy when things slow down, I also like feeling highly productive and seeing much accomplished. When we stop to smell the roses, we often get more enjoyment out of life, but when we speed through, we get to see more variety. There’s good and bad to both sides.
When you are living in an RV full time you have to remember that everything takes much longer. Although you think you can just take off and go, you can’t. You have to pick up the camp, you have to make sure everything is properly stowed before the earthquake of moving stows it somewhere else. You most definitely want to make sure you have dumped your grey and black tanks, we made that mistake of travelling with a half full black tank, we had no idea how bad the smell would permeate all the way up to the driver’s seat, only to be shaken and stirred to be revived every second until it’s dumped.
When I called around to find a mechanic for our slides it was August. Every shop was completely booked, or they didn’t work on slides, or they didn’t work on our type of motorhome. We found out only 2 shops in the whole country worked on them. So, once we finally got a website, no phone number, we were able to request an appointment. Their soonest was November 7, 2022. Yes 3 full months away. Then, it still took over 2 weeks to get the parts and do the full repairs. Nothing quick about it.
Although Kurt and Blue opted to stay back in Oregon with the RV at the shop, I needed to get to Florida for our mastermind meeting and setting up 4 more executive rental units. So, I got to get on a plane after not having been on one for 10 months. It was quite the change to so quickly cover 3000 miles and be 3 hours ahead time zone wise, only to have to wait 3 weeks to get to see Kurt. Hurry up and wait, is never fun, but it does also help us to appreciate one another when we have time apart like that also.
As I’m sitting here now after a crazy busy week and I’m looking at the setting around me, I’m thankful for the 75-degree weather while back home they are only 35 degrees and getting snow. I’m also thankful for the beautiful area and the time to slow down and reflect. Life is good, take time to stop and smell the roses, but don’t forget to keep moving or you’ll miss out on the rest of life and there is so much more to come!
