Sometimes we just need to stop and smell the roses, as my granny used to say. She had planted rose trees, not bushes along her walk way, she said to remind her. You see we often get so busy that we face by moments and reminders of the beautiful things in life, a child’s laughter, a loved ones smile, a beautiful flower, a bunny by the side of the road, a butterfly flying around, etc.
She was busy working full time, taking care of her husband and then raising her grandkids most of the summer. She wanted her entry to her home to look appealing, but also she wanted to enjoy it. So she planned rose trees all along the walk way. She would sometimes snip a bud to take with her to work or help freshen the car, or just create a small bouquet for her dining table.
Each time she looked at them it reminded her that there are beautiful things in this world of we make the time to stop and enjoy them, and sometimes do the work to preserve them. You see she still had to water and prune and fertilize those roses to be able to enjoy them in their season, but it always have her something to look forward to.
This beautiful daisy which still has the morning dew reminds me of my beautiful daughter. I’m so proud of her and the hard work she has done making a life for herself. I know how difficult it has been. But I’m also thankful she’s making time to travel and do the things she loves while she can enjoy them. Many of the things I loved I was unable to do after my work accident and then back to back concussions, so I have to force myself to find joy in the beautiful things that are still there and find a way back to things I do enjoy and some times can do again.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, what one person finds beautiful another may hate. Neither is wrong, just different. May you go find beauty in your world today or do the work necessary to cultivate it in the future.
Until the next adventure…
