Value is in the eye of the beholder. Years ago before currency was truly established, Indians and settlers used beads, shells, spices, materials etc as currency. The buyer would determine how much they believed the value to be and offered what they believed matched that value. The seller would then negotiate the terms of the deal based on what they believed the value to be. If they did not take time talking through each other’s reasoning behind why they thought the way they did, they might never make a deal and they both would walk away losers for it.
When we take the time to talk through our wants and desires with others it also helps us find out or solidify what we truly want. Which in turn helps us get our accomplish things that make us happy.
This picture of clearly some one’s dream home might be viewed by some as a complete loss. Your see when the owners bought this place there was more land under the house and a dock and stairs down from the house to the boat. Since they’re ownership, it had given way in a landslide. Many would call it a devastating loss. But if the owner bought the house recognizing there were potential erosion risks and was more concerned about having instant access to his boat and the Puget Sound, and maybe only had 5-10 years left due to health, He might have simply determined the value was there, even if the whole house ended up in the ocean.
Then he might have used the erosion issue to negotiate a better sale price. This offsetting his depreciation in the property. He would consider this a huge win and he would get to live out his days happily.
Sometimes we have to show down our just step back and ask ourselves what truly matters to me and what will actually make me happy? If we never do this we complete miss out on life and are just existing. I don’t want that for you or me. So maybe for this next adventure, just pause, give yourself the gift of time, and all yourself those questions. Then stay there long enough until you have those answers. It may be very eye opening.
Until the next adventure….
