Many folks are curious about our lifestyle and so ask interesting questions. Some times I find them hilarious, others thought provoking, and some just sad. This picture reminds me of one we get asked often.
“Well what about Christmas, if you don’t have a home how can you celebrate Christmas?
These folks are seriously concerned for us as if we are somehow missing out on something.
First I remind them, we have a home and are not homeless. We just don’t have a stick built one we call our primary residence at this time. Secondly, I point out that Christmas is not a specific place or location. It is a specific time of year where the world celebrates the birth of Christ, so I can celebrate right along with everyone wherever I’m at. Thirdly, many of the traditions we use in the Christmas celebration revolve around family getting together, getting together with friends and coworkers, and doing specific activities like caroling or making gingerbread houses. All of which can still take place.
This picture is one I took while on my travels for a San Diego business trip. They too were reminding us to join in the holiday celebrations while we were there. Next time I will be planning more time to do so as they had wonderful light parade and trolley lights tours, etc that I would have loved to do with my teammates so we will plan accordingly next time.
Christmas is an amazing time of year where our hearts and minds and many of our actions can find commonplace with the joy of the birth of Christ and the free gift for us all that it represents. That will never change regardless of my stick built home status, so don’t fret. Wherever I go I always round up a group to go caroling. I always get together with friends and family, the only thing I don’t do is set up a full size Christmas tree, which Kurt is thankful for because he was always a bah humbug in this area and just complained the whole time even though all he did was carry the boxes from garage to living room and set up tree. The kids and I did the rest and many of the later years it was just me because his bah humbug attitude was contagious. Instead now I have a small live one that we will plant after the season is over and get to leave a part of our Christmas wherever we are.
So you see Christmas is still Christmas even for the RV investor.
