One of the things I love about not just traveling, but about our country, is the variety in all of the different areas. I have always been a theater fan, and not movie theaters, live theater and community playhouses, things of that nature. So it’s fun to go into new areas and find out what they’re doing in the arts. Sometimes it’s symphonies and music concerts, other times it’s live theater and plays and productions. Other times it’s just a community gathering space.
So this time we were in Monroe, Washington, and we were exploring and reacquainting ourselves with the area since it has grown so much. And while there, their local community playhouse was putting on Joseph the Technicolor coat, and it was such a fun production, and it was done in a very old historic theater that had great seating and acoustics and just a phenomenal building that they were able to save. And this local group came together to put this on and just did a fantastic job. It’s always fun to see that up and coming.
Next, they don’t have to be Broadway productions to still be a good play, and the play is a very good play and very well done. Kind of a twist on Joseph and his brothers and when they sell them into slavery, and kind of a twist with some modern things in it. So it was definitely fun and a great time for us to get out and do something a little bit different. But the community playhouses oftentimes are a lot less expensive than the big, large Broadway productions. True, their sets and all that aren’t as big and glamorous, but you also don’t have the big price tags that you’re paying for those. So it’s oftentimes a lot of fun to even catch up to. We check out a lot of high school theater programs. There’s some phenomenal drama programs in your local high schools. So if you’re looking for something fun to do and you’re not quite sure what or how or where, start checking out your local community areas to see if there’s any local theater playhouses or school the high school productions.
You might be surprised. We’ve seen some amazing productions at different high schools all across this country, and it’s a great way to get out and experience some things, but also support the local programs and the arts as well, which we’re a huge fan of. So until next time, in the next adventure. Bye.
