If these pictures seem completely off the wall, total pun intended, they are. One picture shows you what the front of the bathtub faucet area looks like, while the other shows what the back of it looks like, after you have had to cut into it.
When you buy older homes you have to expect things are going to go wrong.
What typically goes wrong in the shower and bathtub area is that the valve fails in the tub assembly. But as you can see in the pic we have beautiful tile in place, so the only way you would be able to access that valve to replace it would be to jack hammer the tile out. That way is a huge expense and unnecessary.
We have learned if at all possible to come from the backside. This way you are only replacing a piece of sheet rock, much cheaper. But it all depends where the backside is located. Sometimes you can simply put an access panel, sometimes not. But sometimes it doesn’t matter because the spot is hidden behind something. It is hidden behind the washer dryer.
When life happens to us, and it will, it rains on the just and the unjust. How we perceive the matter and our attitude towards it will determine how we get through it or don’t.
If I liked everything life threw at me as whoa is me, then I would be depressed and miserable and every situation would feel like another attack. But if ì realize it happens to all of us and I just need to learn what to do to get through it, then next time I will sail through and it will be no big deal. It doesn’t mean I enjoy it, or want it to happen again, but it does mean the emotional roller coaster disappears and it no longer rules me. Until the next adventure!
