What happens when you are told that we were invited to a ladies tea? Well of course we dressed accordingly!
When I stopped at my step mom’s house to visit on my way through Denver, she asked if I wanted to go with her to a ladies tea and fashion show. I said sure sounds like fun. Then she told me well since it was a tea, maybe we should wear hats or something. Yes my step mom is much older and from a time when tea was a much more formal gathering of friends and even more formal if there was a fashion show fundraiser happening.I said absolutely, how often do we get the chance to dress up!
Well she then proceeded to dig through her closet and find any hats she owned. She only had 2, a red one, and a black one, and since I only had 1 more dressy dress with me the black one was the one for me. It was a gigantic thing and bent a little in the wrong direction, but hey it made her happy and I would probably never see these folks again, so let’s do this.
I am normally a hat person and just love the opportunity to wear a hat and not have to do my hair, unfortunately, that was not the case with this hat, so off I went to try to fix my hair. So now that we’re all dolled up we went to pick up her friend, who consequently was not dressed up, it was too bad. Then we showed up at the church and entered the gymnasium, only to realize it was not a tea at all, but simply a senior citizens fashion show.
But we weren’t about to let that spoil our good time. So as I looked around the room I pointed out how well dressed some of the other folks were, like this gentleman in front of us, see above pic.. Only to find out that he was a model and later walked the runway. My mom reached over and said, maybe we were supposed to walk the runway too? When I started to grab her, she said no no I was just kidding, she knew I would do it.
I have never seen so many 70 plus year old women in 4 inch spike heels clearly winning the cat walk without nary a stumble. The men were just as good of sports as they donned their duds and strutted their stuff. It was great fun and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Since they were seniors, it took longer than a usual fashion show might have, and since it was not a tea, we were starving and needed to grab food after.
But it was certainly another great adventure for the day, I wonder what tomorrow will bring….
