What happens post covid19? Everyone learns about the wonders and sometimes not so wondrous adventures of going virtual. They even convince themselves they like it better than actually showing up to in person meetings. They spout about being able to work in their pajamas, and being flexible when they have a sick child at home, etc, but mostly it is about not getting dressed to go to work.
What we forget is that our bodies are like walking computers. When we train it to have a routine that it operates on it can go into autopilot. Kind of like when you drive home from work and you get there not remembering anything about the drive. Autopilot is good sometimes but not all the time. We have to be able to respond to whatever life throws at us. The bible tells us to be instant in season and out of season. It means be ready.
So by not getting up and preparing for our day by dressing, doing our morning routines, planning out our day, are we not just setting ourselves up for failure? Then we are just kind of reacting to whatever gets thrown our way and we are not really ready for it. Where, if we were ready and on the offense we would usually respond the best because we are in the driver’s seat, alert, and aware.
When we meet together in person it sends a message to our brain which sends a chemical message to our body. Think of it like stepping up your game. Your body works to help you be at your best, but you have to do the things that trigger that reaction in your body to start the message. As entrepreneurs, we often can be working alone and isolated, so taking the time to meet for coffee, or have an in person meeting, can vastly improve your mental morale as well as releasing those endorphins because you got up out of the chair. Which ultimately are your happy chemicals.
Going to Kansas City to meet my KREI mastermind group was definitely one of the biggest challenges yet for me this year. Why would a simple trip be so challenging you say? Because I am back on crutches for the unforeseeable future and dealing with large amounts of pain daily. Normally, I would have been riding in the RV to get to this event, but Kurt headed back to WA state early and I needed to drive myself. This causes even more pain and takes more time.
Could I have chosen to not go, absolutely, but I knew I needed to go. I needed time with my support team. Iron can’t sharpen iron, if it is never in the same proximity. I also needed to meet our newest members and have time with them as some of us are already doing deals together and I understand the importance of a face to face.
As you can see by the picture, although I was the first woman in our group, we are steadily growing. One of those women in our picture Carrie Verburg made T-shirts for us. While I never would have thought of that, she did and what a blessing and encouragement it was to us all. We had been a blessing to her and she wanted to do the same. She has no idea how important that was to each of us and where we were at in our businesses at that moment.
We will never know what the future holds, but we can certainly respond to whatever it is with far more joy and certainty if we are doing the steps to be ready to receive the blessing. I had to do the work to get there and what a great blessing I received because of it. Just like so many of the rest of our group. Sure I’m on crutches AGAIN, and I’m forced to do painful exercises, but I also get those happy chemicals to help me through it and in the end, I will get back off the crutches, and isn’t that more important to me than momentary discomfort?
What are you facing today? Are you prepared for it? Have you got yourself ready for the day so you could put your best foot forward and face whatever life throws at you? Remind yourself what your end goal is and see if it doesn’t help motivate you to get back on track?
Until the next adventure…
