One of the challenges that we deal with in our executive rental business is always finding good and new contractors. You see we have found that contractors have a shelf life. Sometimes they start out great but don’t last, sometimes they aren’t a good fit, or sometimes their business takes a different turn. As we travel around we are always keeping an eye out in each of the markets we are in.
Yes in this day and age of technology we can use google, but we have often found some of our best contractors don’t come from the internet and may not even have any info on the internet. We find these gems in local restaurants on the table top advertisements, or in a local bulletin board. Sometimes it is on a bandit sign, or a sign on a main road. Sometimes it is from a local nickel ad, yes they still have those in some communities. Often these gems are good solid contractors who have been around for quite a while and don’t need to advertise on the internet, so they don’t.
You see when we go to a new area or even visit the same markets, things change in those areas and we want to stay up to date and current whether it is on our pricing or on the type of services, or just build new relationships. So we intentionally drive around town looking for signs just like you see here in the pics, we stop at small non franchised restaurants and look at the tabletops, or their bulletin boards, we even ask for recommendations on where others might advertise. Believe it or not, some communities still have the yellow pages.
You see our business model is to create sustainable growth and to do that we want to always be working with local businesses and either coming alongside them to keep them in business or offering help to help them grow and scale their business to meet our needs as well as their own. We provide training and support to any of our local businesses that are willing to do the work and in turn build a long-standing relationship with us.
So while you may think driving around looking at the ads may not be very exciting, it is always fun to see what others are doing to catch people’s attention and see that the good old days are dead and gone, just take a drive and enjoy the nostalgia. Until the next adventure…
