I love you to the moon and back!! Many folks have asked don’t I miss not seeing my adult kids as much. I always respond the same, Of course I do, but when I do get to see them I treasure it so much more and sometimes we get to do things we never would have. For the most part, my kids have always enjoyed going on another adventure with mom, as they have grown up, some of their tastes have changed, which takes getting used to, when we don’t see each other all the time.
My son is much like me in that he is very entrepreneurial minded and leads the pack wherever he goes. He loves all things cars, like I did until I started having kids, and still loves to go camping and hiking in the woods looking for whatever might be out there.
This family reunion was no different, as we trekked over to the planetarium during the day to explore their exhibits, we couldn’t help but pretend to be astronauts on landing on the moon for the first time. Of course he’s Joe Cool, and I am gawking in admiration!
He’s very competitive and from a young age I had to stop letting him win and make him earn it because he was way too smart. So he beats almost all of the family in monopoly, settlers of catan, and anomia, but the rest of us still stand a chance with minigolf, chess, and tennis, now that he hurt his shoulder.
I have sacrificed so much for my children and overcome so many horrible things to see them grow up to be happy, healthy, and all around good people that others would want around as well. Like any parent, I made more than my share of mistakes and had to ask for forgiveness multiple times, so I am so thankful for any precious moments they choose to share with me in their adult lives and get to see them continue to find their way in this crazy thing we call life.
It’s so easy to get caught up in the business of life and forget the simple pleasures we enjoyed as a kid, like pretending to land on the moon, or exploring an area for the first time and looking for treasures, or just talking and making new friends. This is why most people smile when they see kids playing and enjoying life, it reminds them life is meant to be fun.
So as I’m off to go plan our next fun adventure, I hope you will take some time to do something out of the ordinary and be intentional about doing something fun this weekend! You will be glad you did.
