First stop McMinnville, Oregon for my sister’s surgery. We stayed at the Olde Stone Village which was next to an amazing museum of flight. Unfortunately, thanks to Covid none of the museums were open and we only got to glance through the windows, which was still fun. Lesson #1 make sure to test the force of the braking system on your tow vehicle before you take it on a extended trip. We stopped 5 hours it and smelled burning brakes but didn’t really know what could be causing it, everything seemed to look functional so we finished the route.
Lesson #2, when showing up at the park disconnect the car before trying to park the RV. The tow bars were in a sideways position and under full pressure covered in so much road debris we had to take a hammer and screw driver to it for quite a while to get the pins out, not a welcome sound for the rest of the park when their winding down for the evening. Then when we did get it disconnected and we went to drive it to park it we realized that smell was our brand new brakes which were now fried. Picture riding the brakes hard for 6 hours, yup pretty much nothing left of them. But thankfully God blesses the ignorant and we had no accident. We’ve since learned to put the braking system on 2 instead of 5 and we know how and where to disconnect the car so it won’t be under full pressure when doing so.
Yay, wins all around!!
