The City of Broussard has made significant strides in improving its fire protection rating, showcasing the results of concerted efforts in public safety and infrastructure development. Since 2019, Broussard’s fire rating has improved from a Class 4 to a Class 2, reflecting a notable advancement in the city’s fire protection capabilities.
“Improving the city’s fire rating is the result of our dedication to investing in enhancing our fire protection and upgrading the city’s water system,” said Broussard Mayor Ray Bourque. “This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to the hard work of the Broussard Fire Department and the Public Works Department. Our team effort reflects the city’s commitment to public safety, quality of life, and economic development.”
The Impact of an Improved Fire Rating
The Public Fire Protection Classifications, determined by the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL) and approved by the Louisiana Commissioner of Insurance, play a crucial role in determining fire insurance rates for property owners. With Broussard’s improved rating, property owners within the city limits may see a decrease in fire insurance rates, although individually rated commercial properties may not be affected.
The improvement in the fire rating is based on several factors including the staffing, training, and equipment of the fire departments, as well as the water systems available for fire-fighting. Broussard’s strategic investments in state-of-the-art equipment, additional staffing, improved response times, and the implementation of best practices in emergency response and fire prevention have all contributed to this achievement.
“This improved classification reflects our unwavering commitment to enhancing fire safety and protection services,” said Broussard Fire Chief Bryan Champagne.
